drawer set

So I recently showed you this little drawer chest that I picked up from a charity shop for only £1. It was kind of ugly, but sometimes I feel like I have to buy something when I get an idea in my head. So I decided to buy it and then finally got round to giving it it's little make over and I'm quite happy with it!

It's made of some kind of cheap wood and it isn't excellent quality, but it was only £1! Anyway to start with I sanded it down, and took off those purple knobs from the drawers. Then I painted it all over with a white emulsion paint. I have to admit though, this wasn't my best paint job!

I had seen these cute little crystal look knobs on eBay and they were only £2 for 4 from a Chinese seller. They were the perfect size! Although I had to ask Dad to shorten the screws on them as they were too long, so he sawed them down. Don't know what I'd do without such a handyman Dad! I was really pleased with how perfectly sized they were. All the other knobs I'd seen had been big for a proper sized chest of drawers, so I was thrilled to find some mini ones!

Once the paint was all dry, I thought it needed a bit of colour added to it. I decided to cut out a piece of square paper from a Cath Kidston magazine, and glued it to the top. The paper is very thick and good quality and has a lovely sheen to it. And the pattern is so pretty!

And that was it! Ta da! So in total it cost me £3 to make this which I think is worth it as I can use it to keep hair clips and odds and ends in :) I think it will look very cute in my room!

What do you think? I know a few of you have mentioned to me that you miss my carboot sale posts and DIY upcycling projects so I thought I'd show you this to fill the gap! Car boot season here starts in April, weather permitting, and I cannot wait! I had such a great past couple of years since I started bootsale hunting and I plan to keep it up again in 2013!
